Mabuhay House Society Intergenerational Engagement Supports Youth & Seniors at 5 Filipino Community Events
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 24, 2024
Vancouver, BC — After June’s success as Filipino Heritage Month, Mabuhay House Society (MHS) is continuously making strides to engage the Filipino community in the provincial Filipino cultural centre while soaking up the summer sun.
The month of July flew by as MHS attended events from five different organizations: the inaugural Filipino-Canadian Book Festival, BIBAK BC’s Grand Cañao, SFU FSA’s Pistang Sari-Sari, Adamson University Alumni’s Global Reunion and Hawak Kamay with Filipino Seniors Club of BC.
The diverse programming ranged from author panels and cultural performances, to a global reunion, a student-run sari-sari store and a Q&A with seniors. MHS was thrilled to be invited as a community partner and grateful for each opportunity to engage with youth, elders and everyone in-between.
“Our organization is committed to bridging the gaps between generations,” says Sammie Jo Rumbaua, Board Chair of Mabuhay House Society.
“With the provincial Filipino cultural center being a multi-year project, it’s more important than ever to learn from each other and move forward as a collective. Mabuhay House Society is excited to continue working with the community and the government to build a provincial Filipino cultural center that is truly intergenerational, intercultural and inclusive.”
Next Steps
Mabuhay House Society strongly encourages everyone to fill out and share the Provincial government’s vision survey at engage.gov.bc.ca/provincialfilipinoculturalcentre before it closes in December 2024. Every voice matters!
The Provincial government expects to share the survey findings by Spring 2025 and announce the next steps of engagement in Summer 2025.
